The De La Salle Institute (DLSI) was established by the La
Salle Brothers in Malaysia in 1994 as a
tertiary educational institution offering continuing education at
certificate, diploma and degree levels and to provide human resource development
programmes to the community. The Institute draws upon its rich heritage and
strong tradition of academic excellence and personal development.
The legacy of Lasallian education is 350 years old in over 80
countries worldwide. In Malaysia, the De La Salle
Brothers set up about 60 primary and secondary schools in the country over
the last 150 years. Countless Malaysians have graduated from La Salle
Schools such as St Xavier's Penang, St George's Taiping, St Michael's Ipoh, St John's Kula Lumpur, St Paul's Seremban, St Francis' Malacca, St Andrew's Muar, La
Salle Sacred Heart Kota Kinabalu and St Joseph's Kuching.
While there are several De La Salle Universities
overseas, DLSI is the only Lasallian institution in Malaysia committed to tertiary level education.
DLSI is a wholly owned educational institution of the La
Salle Brothers in Malaysia. It is managed and
driven as a shared mission between the Brothers and the Alumni of Malaysian
Lasallian Schools. It is governed by a Board of Directors comprising
the Brothers and the La Sallian Alumni and is, likewise, jointly managed by
the CEO who is a La Sallian graduate, and a Brother Principal. This
symbiotic and synergistic partnership extends across all activities. Key among
these activities is the Academic
Board which is represented by distinguished graduates who have
contributed prominently to education, business, politics, the professions,
and government as well as Brothers who have contributed enormously to the
rich legacy of wholesome education in the country.
True to the Lasallian mission, DLSI is committed to:
- A broad-based holistic
perspective in enabling students to gain knowledge, understanding and
competencies which have long lasting value
- Developing critical
thinking as well as intra-personal and inter-personal skills which are
the foundation of good leadership
- Inculcating values of
honesty, diligence, discipline, tolerance, and respect, and
- Instilling care and concern
for others, particularly for the less fortunate members of society.
